What Mitt Romneys $10K Buys in Nevada

Las Vegas, NV – During the Republican presidential debate in Iowa last weekend, multi-millionaire Mitt Romney offered Rick Perry a $10,000 bet – shortly after he once again dismissed a payroll tax cut saving middle-class families an average of $1,500 as a “temporary little Band-Aid.”  Yep, Romney was willing to bet $10,000 without even blinking.

So what does $10,000 buy middle-class Nevadans?
  • More than three years of gas for the average Nevada family ($9,705)
  • 13 months rent for a 1 bedroom apartment in Las Vegas ($9,425)
  • 3 months salary for a Nevada elementary school teacher ($9,847)
  • Over 2 months salary for the average Nevada household ($8,884)
  • Cost of a 2002 Ford Excursion ($9,488)
“Every time we think Mitt Romney has proven he could not be more out-of-touch with the needs of middle-class families in America, he outdoes himself,” said Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Zach Hudson.  “$10,000 may not mean much to Mitt Romney, but that is more than two months of hard-earned pay for average Nevadans.  The fact this is the same candidate who believes that ‘corporations are people,’ and in the very same debate Saturday night continued to dismiss a $1,500 tax cut for working families as a ‘little Band-Aid’ just goes to show that Mitt Romney doesn’t have a clue what it takes for everyday folks here in Nevada to make ends meet.”
