Ted Cruz Campaigns with Nevada Seniors While Promising to Undermine Their Retirement Security
Las Vegas, NV – Two days after the GOP debate, Texas Senator Ted Cruz was back in Nevada today to hold a town hall at a community for seniors. We wonder if the folks in attendance agree with Cruz’s view that Social Security is a "Ponzi Scheme," or if they like his three-point plan to raise the Social Security retirement age, cut benefits and privatize the program. We also didn’t hear him explain why he supports turning Medicare into a voucher program, a move that could cost seniors thousands of dollars in new out-of-pocket costs.
“Protecting and preserving Social Security and Medicare for our seniors must be a top priority for any serious presidential candidate. Nevada seniors have paid into Social Security their whole lives and deserve to retire with dignity, but Ted Cruz – who thinks the program is a Ponzi scheme – has laid out an extreme agenda to weaken the program. And instead of working to strengthen health care access for seniors, Cruz has embraced the Romney-Ryan plan to turn Medicare into a voucher program. Since Ted Cruz is campaigning with Nevada seniors today, we're not surprised he didn't want to explain his plans to undermine their retirement security by attacking Social Security and Medicare.” — Nevada State Democratic Party Press Secretary Stewart Boss
