GOP Candidate Confused On Whether He Will Debate Rory Reid
If you mistakenly thought GOP gubernatorial candidate Brian Sandoval was invisible, you weren’t alone.
But Sandoval proved us all wrong this week, when he emerged to say something silly on television – once and for all clearing up the mystery of why his campaign staff doesn’t, well, let him say things on television.
"We are in discussions right now, the two campaigns," to schedule a series of debates, Sandoval said to Nevada NewsMakers hosts Sam Shad and Ray Hagar. "We are going to debate three times this fall. I think that should be sufficient."
Problem is, the Rory Reid campaign, which has agreed to more than 10 debates with the hard-to-find Sandoval, has yet to be included in these elusive “discussions.” That’s because, as a Sandoval spokeswoman admitted to the Review-Journal today, the discussions have yet to take place. “Sandoval mistaken, awkward phone call to ensue,” wrote the R-J.
“Brian Sandoval hasn’t come out of his bunker in so long he isn’t even aware that his campaign hasn’t yet scheduled any more of those rare public appearances,” said Phoebe Sweet, communications director for the Nevada State Democratic Party. “While it’s true the light of day, and the scrutiny of the media, can be confusing, it’s time Brian Sandoval started discussing his positions on cutting teacher jobs, ballooning class sizes and draining money from public schools, among other things. Nevada voters deserve to hear his explanation of how and why he will gut their children’s education system and hamstring our economy for decades to come – that is, if it’s not too much trouble for this elusive candidate to actually show up for his own campaign to be the next Gov. Jim Gibbons.”
